Blog Your Heart

September 28, 2012

Thanks to Mrs. Stephanie Howell for this prompt. You can see her blog post HERE.
We're gonna stick with the numbering style, since that seems to work the best for what I've got to say.

1. I love the Fall. I really do. I think I get happier in the Fall, which is unfortunate for the other 3 seasons that occupy the year. The food gets better, the clothes get better, the holidays get better. Seriously, I live for Fall.

2. I'm coming to terms with the reality that another baby may not be coming to our home anytime soon. I've struggling with giving in to that feeling a lot. Like if I accept that reality, I will loose all my hope. But since I've been letting go a little bit, I feel other things in my life filling that void. I'm working on turning my focus to the family that is here with me every day and trying to strengthen my bond with them, instead of investing so much energy in the absence of someone.

3. I forget sometimes that I have the most amazing family. My parents, my in-laws, my siblings, my cousins, my grandparents. I am really very blessed. I have a huge network of people that I could call anytime if needed. How's that for a security blanket?

4. Everytime I find a photo in my camera or in my phone, one that I might have missed, it reminds me why I take so many photos. I seriously LOVE photography. I love that I live in a day and age where I can take up to 1000 pictures and all I have to worry about it disk space. I love that lately, I've been able to share my love of photography with lots and lots of people.

5. I'm scared to go back to school. I'm not a school person. I'm not an academic person. I do much better in a work environment. I thrive and succeed there. But not school. It doesn't help that my (awesome) husband's GPA is setting an EXTREMELY high bar. Here's to hoping College: Round 2 is better than round one.

I hope you have a great weekend!

Woodlands Quilt

September 24, 2012

I've had this this fabric sitting in my stash since Christmas vacation, when I picked them out after quilting high. Well when I got home, those fabrics and pattern promptly went into the stash pile where they sat. and sat. and sat. I finally finished up this quilt top over our long summer vacation in California. but again, the finished top just sat and sat. Until a couple days ago, when I decided I needed to buy a backing for it and get it done.

I love the way it turned out. I was worried it would be too bright, but the white and the blue background seem to have toned it down quite a bit. I used another Cluck, Cluck, Sew pattern for this one. I just adore her patterns. They are so easy to follow. If you are thinking about quilting, I would definitely recommend her patterns for a beginner.

Here is the pattern I used, it's called Skipping Squares. It takes 10 fat quarters and some white yardage. If you have budget constraints, this is also another good one, as you can usually get fat quarters on sale and you can buy white yardage for cheap at Wal-Mart.

While I love the way this quilt turned out, it was A LOT of cutting. A Lot! Which is why I think it took me so long to finish, cutting is my least favorite part. But putting the pieces together was very simple and the instructions were easy to follow.

With this quilt I also tried stippling, which is basically squiggly lines that don't touch or cross over each other. It was a little more time intensive then my regular random curly-Q's, but I really like the finished look. And it makes the back look really neat.

I didn't have a purpose for this quilt, so I'm holding on to it for a little while until I figure out what to do with it. I still have two finished quilt tops and two more quilts in the works, but I'm making a dent in my fabric stash and that makes me happy. Now to make a dent in my scrapbooking stash....yeah, that will take years.

Citrus Twist Guest Designer

September 23, 2012

I'm so excited to finally be able to share, (I've been keeping the secret for awhile) I'm the guest designer this month for Citrus Twist kit club. Citrus Twist is a newer kit club and you can find out more about how there kit subscriptions work HERE.

This kit was such a great kit - full of primary colors and embellishments. I had such a great time creating these pages. I really utilized the Crate Paper chipboard that came in this kit. It was probably my favorite embellishments. But the exclusives stamps are a close second :)

You can still purchase this kit HERE. I also used add-on #1, which I thought was a great supplement to the main kit.
You can check out their blog HERE and for those of you who do Project Life, starting in October, Citrus Twist will be offering a Project Life add-on. You definitely want to check them out!

99 Days

September 16, 2012

I just found out today, that there are only 99 days until Christmas. Did seeing that make anyone else freak out a little bit?!? I have started my Christmas shopping, thankfully, but still 99 days seems like not enough time to do all the fall crafts I want, and bake all the pumpkin recipes I've pinned on Pinterest, and decorate my house for each and every holiday....

Time seems to be in short lately. Between back to school, traveling, my infertility medications and routines, and household stuff, I feel like have little time for anything else. So I'm gonna work on that. We're gonna slow down a bit. Commit a little less, organize a little more, and see what happens.

This past week I got to visit my Grandparent's beautiful garden and admire all their hard work. Have you ever seen such beautiful zinnias? I was also able to capture one of the several bees, pollinating their garden.

Zoe had so much fun helping pick raspberries and green beans. I hope she remembers this when she gets older. It's such a treasure to spend time in their garden.

I did sneak in some creative time yesterday. I finally got to play with Kelly Purkey's new stamps, that arrived last week.I made a couple of cards with her new thankful set, white woodgrain cardstock, and my Amy Tan Ready, Set, Go 6x6 pad.

I used American Crafts Zing embossing powder with the stamps, and they turned out great. I have to remember to use my embossing stuff more often, then just make stamped images POP!

Scrapbook Circle September Layouts!

September 8, 2012

So excited to finally share some scrapbooking on this blog! It's about time, right?

When I got my September kit this week, I immediately sat down and scrapped 4 layouts. I was in major need of some scrappy time and some awesome new products. The September kit is FULL of brand new CHA-S stuff. Unfortunately the kit is now sold out, but you can avoid that next month by signing up for a subscription HERE.

Now it's time to share my layouts. Thank you to Aly Willis for these amazing pictures of Zoe. (PS. She is running a special on portrait session right now - contact her HERE)

This kit was super easy to work with, each page just fell together and thankfully, I still have a bunch of stuff left, so you will be seeing more pages with this kit in the coming weeks.

Happy Saturday!

Baby Brooke

September 4, 2012

Baby Brooke is only 6 days old and precious as can be. She was an angel while we took her pictures, barely made a peep. This was my first newborn session outside of a hospital, and I'm glad I had a sleepy baby to work with.
I just couldn't wait to get a look at these, and I wanted to share a few of my favorites.

On this last one, I caught a half smile. I know babies don't really know how to smile, but it's sure cute when they do. Thanks so much to Lindsay and Tony for letting me take pictures of your precious little one.

More scrapbooking in the days to come. I know it's been awhile since I've had pages on here, but I promise I have some coming.
